Amsterdamse Poort Suite
Multifunctional Spatial Design with a Repurpose and Circular touch

Amsterdam Zuidoost, 2022

We where invited to design a spatial interior transformation from a former ING bank office into a creative platform to feel inspired during the transition and development of the Amsterdamse Poort area.

Our challenge was to find and apply new ways of designing space by reusing, retouching an reinventing already existing materials. But also creating space for multiple usage like, hosting events, active meeting rooms, relaxing living room and presenting stage.

Amsterdamse Poort we really enjoyed your openness and trust to create something lively and beautiful together. And a massive spark to the awesome collaboration with Studio Stam and everyone else on our dreamteam!

Schouwburg Amstelveen
Spatial Transformation with a fine line between Great Grandeur and Welcoming Coziness

Amstelveen, 2022

Buro Mos had the honor to redesign the space an public experience of the ‘iconic building: Schouwburg Amstelveen’ a lovely forward thinking place with a broad cultural-, theater-, and filmprogram to explore, right at the middle of the city center square Stadhart.

The previous architect Bentham Crowel and Kho Liang Le’s interior specialist Nel Verschuren designed the transformation of space from the old building into the new combined situation around the year 2000. At that time, conceptual wonderfully done with a massive eye to detail, surely very outgoing. But now in these present day, 22 years later, a little outdated in usage and needs.

So our challenge was finding suiting ways to let the public feel more at home. We decided to explore with the same eye to detail and work with some of the beautiful already existing elements; like for instance the golden ceilings and some of the custom made interior items. In combination with our inspiration: ‘less is more’, we renewed, reused and recreated by coming up with a more suiting light-, color-, material-, and interior designplan. We applied new ways of usage to the existing space, with the aim to create an overall spatial more cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

Schouwburg Amstelveen we really enjoyed your curiosity and trust to create something very minimalistic and outgoing, lively and beautiful together. Also a big heads-up to our dreamteam Studio Kley and Studio Stam!

Also a big heads-up to our dreamteam Studio Kley and Studio Stam!

het Oude Stadhuis Harderwijk
redevelopment of an iconic historic town hall into a interdisciplinary public space

Harderwijk, 2019

Our Challenge:
How to give the most iconic building, at the city centre’s Main Square, back to the people and her city? That is where the collaboration started between two daring cultural organizations that had the guts to develop a wonderful cultural plan for the re-use of this beautiful building. The local Municipality had seen the necessity to own and lead this project. A make over the building really deserved.

Our goal was to unravel the stories from the past and to use them as inspiration for new stories infused and coloured by history. We developed concepts, designed unique spaces and developed bespoke objects with lots of attention to detail. It was the constant growing and sharing of talent and ideas that made this project particularly special. The combination of different fields of expertise (from cultural plan developers to gifted builders and decorators) lead to a unique and original architectural & spatial design. It is the fruit of a strong collaboration between Mir Architects and Buro Mos and something we are all very proud of.

Theatre café, since 1975 the meeting place for theatre lovers

Amsterdam, 2018

Our challenge:
To refresh and renew one of the most well known, characteristic and outstanding Theatre cafes in Amsterdam without touching her soul and removing her stories. An additional challenge here is that the entire building’s foundation had to be rebuilt which basically meant, almost everything you could see and touch, had to go!

Mos structured logistics and upgraded the entire café without loosing identity. We transformed and upgraded the interior so that it felt contemporary without losing any of its soul. We revoked the café’s atmosphere by creating a warm and welcoming experience but also paying attention and celebrating every small detail.

Instock Utrecht
An idealistic restaurant turning rescued food into delicious meals

Utrecht, 2016

Our challenge:
Food wastage is something, which is rife in big cities. Here we were challenged to develop a concept and spatial design that reflected the idealistic goals of this multifunctional restaurant. Our mission here was to use every facet of the restaurant’s design to echo the values and principles Instock stands for. We recycled objects to create new and exciting storage spaces. In the manner of the restaurant itself our designs were sustainable, re-usable and produced in a cradle-to-cradle manner as much as possible. We combined lasting materials and gave others a new lease of life. We created bespoke custom-made objects and worked together with local sustainable designers. Besides experiencing the restaurant concept, the space needed flexibility, changeability and functionality in order to host a diverse range of events and meetings.

Family Kitchen
Custom-made kitchen, smart storage and living space experience

Amsterdam, 2017

Our challenge:
Concept development and design for a multifunctional kitchen experience, where each side has its own functionality. Each area presented a diverse range of challenges such as the storage of children’s jackets or stacking shoes close to the garden’s backdoor. The key objective here was to maintain the spacious flow but also supply storage space elegantly treated in the overall design. The addition of a unique room divider greatly helped to heighten the spacious feel and created a welcoming cosiness.
